SIAMSA TIRE, THE NATIONAL FOLK THEATRE OF IRELAND
Founded in 1974, Siamsa Tire, The National Folk Theatre of Ireland presents
on stage a theatrical entertainment based on the wealth of music, dance
and folklore that has evolved from the earliest times to the present.
Siamsa Tire has represented Ireland all over the world on stage, through
vibrant, colourful, exciting entertainment and continues to create new
folk theatre presentations drawing on our traditions and rich cultural
reservoir.
Fulltime and community performers integrate and blend into a dedicated
and talented team. Training occurs in the theatre and in Tithe Siamsa
(Folk Academies) at Finuge in North Kerry and Carraig in Corca Dhuibhne,
the Irish speaking area of the Dingle Peninsula. Productions by the company
are fully accessible to people of all nationalities as the shows are delivered
through mime, movement, music, song and dance.
Siamsa Tire is also a vibrant visual arts centre, which includes two galleries
and an open-air sculpture courtyard. There are fourteen exhibitions held
here each year, which are selected by Siamsa Tire, and external curators
and feature work by local, regional, national and international artists.
